Day Trip From Marrakech to Agafay Desert
Marrakech is a short stopover, and you cannot travel to the Saharan Sand Dunes in southern Morocco if time is limited. However, you can take a shorter but still enjoyable trip to Agafay in the “Marrakech desert” for a glimpse of the silence and emptiness of the desert.
Pick up at your hotel/riad is at 9 AM for the short drive to Agafay, less than an hour.
Agafay’s area is rocky, dry, and moon-like. It offers spectacular views of the High Atlas Mountains in winter, snowcapped. The mineral universe is only disturbed by the passing of a few sheep on their way to find grass and herbs.
Unexpectedly, there is an oasis in the middle of the desert. It is a place of peace and tranquility. Even though the desert is so barren, there are frogs, turtles, and plants that can thrive here.
You can enjoy a one-hour camel trekking experience in the Agafay Desert. It takes approximately an hour. You can then enjoy a traditional Moroccan lunch at an Agafay Desert luxury campsite shortly afterward. The famous Moroccan mint tea refreshing glass after the meal.
Later, we turn off-road and enter the High Atlas Mountains. They form a backdrop to the distant.
We visit Lalla Takerkoust’s artificial dam, which provides water to Marrakech. Marrakech depends on this snow each year to replenish its lake. This most visited city in Morocco has a high demand for water with its many pools, roads, and golf courses. After enjoying the beauty and purity of the mountains in large parts, we return to Marrakech.
